RDP: Force -Console Access Not Working

October 13, 2009 scripthacks Leave a comment

I wrote a post a while back which covered how to force console access on a Windows server.  The point of the post was to allow administrators to access a server which had exhausted its assigned number of terminal connections.  Recently I’ve noticed that the previous command shown bellow no longer works.

mstsc -v:<server name or ip address> /F -console

In Terminal Services 6.1 (mstsc version 6.0.6001.18000) and higher the -console option is no longer available.  In its place they now use the -admin option.  The new command is the same as the old with -admin being used in place of -console.

NEW force console access command:
mstsc -v:<server name or ip address> /F -admin

If you do not already have version 6.1 of terminal services it can be downloaded HERE!

Fix – Dell E1505 Intel Wireless Card Drops

Recently my girlfriends laptop has been unable to reach the internet via wireless.  The symptoms are pretty eratic and hard to tie down.  Initially web sites will load but after a couple minutes all network activity will drop.  The interesting piece is that the wireless signal and all monitoring details show as good.

Symptom: All wireless network packets are dropped 1 minute after connecting to wireless access point
Wifi Card: Intel Wireless Card 3945ABG
Laptop Model: Dell Inspiron E1505
Driver Version: 11.5.0.32 (9/26/2007, Intel)

Fix: Within the network adapters properties force the wireless card to only use 802.11G.

Update Wifi Properties

  1. Right click my computer and select Manage
  2. Select Device Manager and expand the Network section
  3. Right click the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless… adapter and select Properties
  4. On the Advanced tab scroll through the list of configuration options and select Wireless Mode
  5. Uncheck “use default value” and then select your wireless type ie. 802.11G etc.
  6. Click Ok and exit the computer management interface.

I got this idea from geektechnicque.org.  Full DIY details can be found bellow.

The apple symbol is lit indicating that the graphics chip is in fact now working.  I purchased this iBook off ebay for $125 and fixed it for nearly nothing.

Symptom: iPhone won’t boot, hangs at pineapple boot screen
Fix: Put iPhone in DFU mode.

  1. Launch iTunes
  2. Connect iPhone to computer via USB cable
  3. Shut iPhone off (press and hold sleep/power button)
  4. Reset iPhone by pressing & holding both the power button and home button (Note Screen will be blank)
  5. Release power button after 10 seconds
iTunes will now recognize the iPhone in DFU mode. It will then give you the option of restoring it.
Restoring an alternative .ips file within iTunes.
  1. Launch iTunes
  2. Connect your iPhone
  3. On the iPhone summary screen press and hold Shift and press Restore.
  4. You will be given the option of selecting your own .ipsw file.
By default iTunes stores .ipsw files in this folder:

or
C:Documents and Settings<user account name>Application DataApple ComputeriTunesiPhone Software Updates
